Legal Nurse Consulting: Using Personal Connections to Find Your First Client

Finding your first client is often the most challenging aspect of starting your legal nurse consulting business. While legal nurse consulting can add value to cases, not all attorneys realize the benefits of legal nurse consulting.

But just like starting any other company, you need to put in a little leg work to get the word out there about your legal nurse consulting business. But where to begin?

I recently had the pleasure of chatting with seasoned Legal Nurse Consultant Cheryl Hobbs who is the co-founder of Class Act Nurse Consulting. While Class Act was founded nearly two decades ago, the marketing principles that she shared with me in our call remain the same. So what’s the secret to getting your legal nurse consulting business off the ground? Utilizing personal connections!

Cheryl and her partner not only used the help of a graphic designer but began asking for the help of their attorney friends to review contracts and look into medical cases involving legal records and situations. In addition to reaching out to connections in their own network, Cheryl began volunteering her services at the District Attorney’s Office, which not only gave her the opportunity to give back to the community but show that legal nurse consulting is a worthwhile investment!

You should always work within your own network when launching your LNC business. This could look like reaching out to attorney acquaintances or just striking up a conversation with a stranger–you never know who you’re going to meet!

In addition to making personal connections, here are some other ways you can get your legal nurse consulting business off the ground, and find your first client!

  • Internet Marketing- If you’re just starting your legal nurse consulting business, then you should strongly consider internet marketing methods to get the word out there about your new business. This could look like hiring a social media manager or running email marketing campaigns to raise awareness and let the world know that you’re open for business.
  • Lasting Impressions– Believe it or not, the impression you make on potential clients matters! So how can you make a good first impression? Clean up your appearance! From your physical appearance to your online footprint, make sure that your business is presented in a professional and organized manner.
  • Follow-Ups- You may not get a yes the first time around, and that’s okay. Be diligent and persistent about following up with leads. As the famous quote goes “Slow and steady wins the race”.
