When you’re building an empire, you’re already subject to fatigue. But when you’re building an empire and you’re not giving your body the nourishment it needs, then you’re setting yourself up for failure. 

Like the renowned Hippocrates once said “Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food”. 

Food consumption has a direct effect on your health and energy. However, not all foods have a positive impact. For example, we are told that a shot of espresso or sugary energy drink will keep us going throughout the day, but these common energy-boosters (or lack thereof) have a subsequent crash that will leave you hungry, tired, and dissatisfied. 

Chatting with Madinah Simpson MSN, RN, & founder of Madinah’s Living Farmacy recently, I was left to ponder the power of food and do a little bit of my own research to discover some of energy-boosting foods that will keep you going, give you clear perspective, and combat fatigue while you embark on the journey of entrepreneurship. 

Here are some of the top foods that will give you a long-lasting energetic boost to get you through the day: 

  • Spinach– Though you surely know that spinach helps you grow big and strong, what you may not know is that spinach helps combat iron deficiencies that may be the root of chronic fatigue.
  • Banana– Bananas are not only high in magnesium and potassium, but also contain healthy fiber, carbs, and vitamins that keep your engine running throughout a busy workday. 
  • Sauerkraut– A surprising snack that makes the list, sauerkraut is rich in probiotics that help your gut digest food efficiently. Sauerkraut also helps regulate nerve impulses throughout the brain and central nervous system. 
  • Eggs– Treating your body to eggs in the morning is a great way to ensure sustainable energy throughout the day, as eggs contain proteins and amino acids that stimulate energy metabolism. 
  • Sweet Potatoes– A sweet and hearty snack, sweet potatoes offer long-lasting energy through fiber and complex carbohydrates that break down slowly in your system. 
  • Almonds– Consuming almonds has been proven to boost athletic performance, combat fatigue, and increase mental & physical endurance–perfect for the hard working entrepreneur!
